War service: Western Front Enlisted with rank of private and posted to F Company, 22nd Reinforcements, Trentham Camp, Upper Hutt, 16 October 1916. Promoted Lance Corporal, 7 November 1916. Promoted Corporal, 20 November 1916. Proceeded overseas from Wellington with 22nd Reinforcements on board HMNZT 'Mokoia', 13 February 1917; disembarked Plymouth, England, marched into Sling Camp and taken on strength 4th Canterbury and Otago (Reserve) Battalion, 2 May 1917. Reverted to Temporary Lance Corporal, 5 May 1917. Proceeded overseas to France and relinquished rank of Temporary Lance Corporal, 6 June 1917. Disembarked and marched in to New Zealand Infantry and General Base Depot, Etaples, France, 8 June 1917.
