Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Havrincourt Wood on 13th September 1918. This NCO was in charge of a Lewis gun Section and personally took forward his gun, and ably assisted a party with covering fire to work their way down a trench. On several occasions under heavy fire from machine-guns and snipers he took his gun into the open in order to obtain a better field of fire. He displayed a high standard of courage and initiative under adverse circumstances and set a splendid example to his men. He worked outstandingly well during all the operations from 23rd August to 14th September.'
