Proceeded overseas to France, 15 November 1916.

Admitted to No 20 General Hospital, Etaples, 18 November 1916 (scabies); attached to Base Depot, Etaples, 21 November 1916.

Joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 4 December 1916, and posted to 10th Company.

Found guilty, 19 February 1917, of loss of 1 box respirator: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2, and ordered to pay replacement cost of 5/-.

Attached to 5th (NZ) Light Railway Operating Section, 20 March 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 8 April 1917.

Found guilty, 25 April 1917, of not complying with an order in that he, after having been ordered to leave the Sergeants' Mess, did no do so: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Detached to Headquarters, 2nd NZ Infantry Brigade, 5 June 1917; rejoined Bn, 10 June 1917.
