War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Wellington, 1 April 1916; disembarked Suez, 2 May 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 20 May 1916; joined 2nd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 29 June 1916, and posted to D Company. Found guilty, 30 March 1917, of when on Active Service being late on parade: deprived of 8 days' pay. Detachtched to Divisional Reinforcements Camp, 6 June 1917; rejoined unit, 12 June 1917. Detached to No 2 Company, NZ Field Engineers, 23 July 1917; rejoined unit, 6 August 1917. On leave to United Kingdom, 13 August 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 24 August 1917.
