Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field on the 26th day of March 1918 north of Mailly Mailiet. This man was a Stretcher bearer. Early in the attack there was work for him to do. He and his fellow bearer toiled on during the reminder of the day and night under constant machine-gun fire and some enemy shelling. On the morning of the 27th a man was wounded in front of our advanced post, Halverson went out to bring him in. On his return he was wounded. This was done in the face of intense enemy machine-gun fire and in full view of the enemy.'
