War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (Gallipoli campaign), 12 April 1915. Transferred to Regimental Stretcher Bearers, 4 August 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 29 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Transferred to New Zealand Engineers, Moascar Camp, 18 February 1916, and posted to No 2 No 2 Field Company Engineers. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 8 April 1916. Wounded in action, 9 September 1916 (gun shot wound, head), and admitted to 23rd Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to 38th Casualty Clearing Station.
