Military Medal 'Messines Offensive 7th to 9th June 1917. This Corporal displayed the greatest gallantry and coolness, and during the heavy bombardment by both sides on the night of the 8th and 9th June he took some men forward from a working party near Oxohian Trench to identify the men advancing towards the main party. To carry out this task he had to go through the heavy barrage. He carried out this duty in the most cheerful manner returning quickly with the information desired.'
