Military Medal 'For gallantry during the night 13/14th June 1917 east of Ploegsteert Wood. On his Platoon Commander being wounded, he took command, established and held an advanced post with conspicuous courage and ability. Though under very heavy shellfire, and suffering heavy casualties, he hung on doggedly and maintained connection with the posts on his flanks. His excellent work and the splendid example he set his men was of very material assistance in enabling his Unit to maintain the line of posts established.'
