Military Medal 'During the attack on Grid Trench on 27th September 1916, the advance was held up on the left. Sgt Gridley who was the only man left of his Lewis gun team gallantly pushed his gun forward into the German wire and was chiefly instrumental in breaking the enemy's resistance.'
