Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At Colincamps on the Ancre on the 5th April 1918, the enemy attacked in superior force. When the preliminary bombardment was opened this N.C.O. was at his company headquarters. While it was at its hottest he was ordered by his company commander to push forward with a patrol and send back information of any infantry attack. With the greatest coolness and contempt for danger Corporal Whisker took his patrol through the barrage and, working well forward into "No-Man's Land", sent back valuable information of enemy movement. He remained out himself until 10 minutes of the development of the infantry attack and on his return delivered a very clear and definite report as to the direction and strength of the enemy moving on our front. This is an unusual instance of calm fearlessness, and one that has had a very fine influence on the moral of the men.'
