Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field at Loupart Wood on the 24th August 1918. This soldier was in charge of a Lewis gun section and throughout the action he displayed great coolness and initiative in handling his gun. By personally pushing forward to a suitable firing point at great risk from heavy machine gun fire, and bringing his gun into action at a critical moment, he kept down the enemy fire, and materially assisted the advance of his platoon without a heavy loss of life. By his initiative and great courage he set a splendid example to his men throughout the operations from then until 14th September 1918.'
