Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For marked gallantry and devotion during active operations in September and October 1918, and in particular on 23rd October 1918, near Vertigneul Farm, when he was acting as a platoon commander. During the advance his platoon met with
heavy machine gun fire. He personally led sections of his men forward, gradually outflanked the enemy machine guns, and enabled the line of advance to be
restored.'
