Military Medal 'On the night of the 12/13th August 1916, Sergt E. H. Crawford was in command of the scouts and wire cutters of the raiding party of the 2nd Auckland Regiment, which successfully raided the enemy?s trenches opposite Curry Post at C 23 c 8 7. On this occasion Sergt Crawford by his coolness and determination set a splendid example to the NCOs and men and was to a great extent responsible for the masterly way in which the withdrawal was carried out. The action of all the NCOs and men was such that it is difficult to single out any one individual, but all ranks unanimously agree that this NCO deserves special credit for his work. Locality near Houlpines.'
