Military Medal 'Operations Gravenstafel - 1st October to 5th October 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This man by his disregard fro his personal safety, was instrumental in keeping a steady supply of water for the front line. He was continually on the road during the whole of the operation and in spite of heavy shelling always pushed forward and arrived at his destination. On the night 2nd/3rd October when the road was heavily shelled, his cart was blown into the ditch and turned upside-down. He stayed on the road and finally righted the cart, when he pushed on through the shelling to his destination.'
