Admitted to NZ General Hospital, Abbassia, 15 December 1915 (injured knee); discharged to duty, 27 December 1915. Joined 2nd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, Alexandria, 4 January 1916. Transferred to 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, Moascar, 23 March 1916; joined Bn, 23 March 1916, and posted to 4th Company. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 9 April 1916. Wounded in action, Armentieres, 18 May 1916 (gun shot wound, left forearm); admitted to 23rd General Hospital, Etaples, 20 May 1916; transferred to England, 25 May 1916, and admitted to 2nd London General Hospital, Chelsea; transferred to 1st NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 7 August 1916; discharged to NZ Command Depot, Codford, 13 September 1916.
