Mention in Despatches 'Conspicuous courage and devotion to duty during the advance of the 3rd Battalion, 3rd N.Z. Rifle Brigade to the Blue Line objective near Flers. He materially assisted in helping forward the advance by moving to and fro along the 400 yards of the Battalion front, advising and encouraging his men. He was killed just as the Brown Line objective was reached. This officer had performed conspicuous good work since the arrival of his Unit in France last April. His loss is a serious one to his Unit.' Awarded, and promulgated, 'London Gazette', 4 January 1917. Mention in Despatches '21/28 Aug 1915: Kaiajik Aghala.
