Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 12th October 1917, during the attack on the Belle Vue Ridge West of Passchendaele, Sergeant Newcombe
brought his machine gun into action while under very heavy machine gun and rifle fire, covering the advance of the Infantry and assisting in keeping down the enemy fire, setting a splendid example to the rest of his men.'
