Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry as forward observation officer. He carried on all day under heavy fire of all kinds, controlled the fire of the brigade on observed targets, and sent in much useful information. Later, when a heavy barrage killed and
wounded several of his battery, he carried on his duties as control officer, and was wounded in helping to remove wounded men. Throughout the operations he
displayed marked courage and devotion to duty.'
