Military Cross 'For devotion to duty during period 28th August to 2nd October 1916. This officer was slightly gassed on August 31st but returned from Field Ambulance the next day and carried on. On 15th September he was slightly wounded by shrapnel but refused to be evacuated and went on with his duties. He has handled his platoon with great coolness while working under fire and has always kept the work going.'
