Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When enemy shelling blew up an ammunition dump close to his position, though he was badly shaken by the explosion, he at once organised a party and attempted to extinguish a fire which had started. On another occasion he was severely wounded while bringing up ammunition, but he succeeded in delivering his loads and steadied his men by his example under intense fire.'
