War service: England Embarked Wellington, 9 June 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 16 August 1917, and marched into Sling Camp. Classified by Medical Board as unfit for Active Service, 13 October 1917, and placed on NZ Roll. Marched into NZ Discharge Depot, Torquay, 3 December 1917. Commenced return to New Zealand on board HT 'Willochra', 1 February 1918; found guilty, at sea, 21 February 1918, of (1) being on a prohibited part of the ship without authority; (2) hesitating to obey an order: forfeited 2 days' pay; discharged (no longer physically fit for War Service on account of pre-enlistment disability: defective vision), 17 April 1918.
