War service: Egypt, Western Front Transferred from Otago Mounted Rifles Regiment to New Zealand Field Artillery, and posted to 14th Battery, Ismailia, 26 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 7 April 1916. Admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 10 January 1917 (influenza); rejoined unit, in the field, 16 January 1917. Posted to 11th Battery, 22 January 1917. On leave to united Kingdom, 17 September 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 29 September 1917. Appointed Cook, 6 November 1917; relinquished appointment as Cook, 11 July 1918. Wounded in action, 1 September 1918 (gun shot wound, nose, right side), and admitted to 3rd Australian General Hospital, 2 September 1918; transferred to England, and admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 5 September 1918.
