Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the advance near Neuville
on the 23rd October 1918, Private Gordon was in command of a section. In the
taking of the village Vertigneul he displayed great gallantry in moping it up, and
handled his section most skillfully. Later, on the ridge ahead, noticing that the
centre was being held up by enfilade machine-gun fire, on his own initiative he
worked his section round to the flank of an enemy machine-gun, captured it and
enabled the centre to move forward. His personal example did much to encourage
his men, who were under machine-gun fire at very close range.'
