Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has taken part in nearly every operation in which the battery has been engaged, distinguished himself by his conspicuous gallantry, and setting a fine example to his gun-team. On one occasion, when time was limited, he worked night and day under shell and machine-gun fire preparing mortar emplacements and getting up the necessary ammunition, with a devotion to duty worthy of the highest praise.'
