Military Medal 'During the night of 27/28th September at the Grid Trench north West of Flers, this NCO displayed great gallantry and conspicuous ability in reconnoitring the enemy's position under heavy artillery and machine-gun fire. When reinforcements and bombs were urgently needed he went across the open under fire to report same, and subsequently led the parties to the required sector. He showed great devotion to duty, efficiency and coolness under all circumstances.'
