War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 16 May 1918; disembarked London, England, 7 July 1918, and marched into Sling Camp. Proceeded overseas to France, 10 October 1918; taken on strength, 1st Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, in the field, 17 October 1918. Admitted to No 1 Stationary Hospital Rouen, 15 March 1919; transferred to England, 4 May 1919, and admitted to Rochester Military Hospital, 5 May 1919; transferred to No 3 NZ General Hospital (Venereal Section), Codford, 9 May 1919; discharged to Venereal Disease Convalescent Section, 14 May 1919. Found guilty, Sling Camp, 15 August 1919, of being absent without leave from 2200, 2 August, to 2000, 14 August 1919, and of delaying repatriation by missing sailing of HT 'Ayreshire': awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeiture of 12 days' pay. Commenced return to New Zealand from Plymouth on board HT 'Remuera, 12 September 1919; disembarked Auckland, 26 October 1919; discharged, 23 November 1919.
