Military Medal 'Operations opposite Polderhoek 27th November to 5th November 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the above operations Sergeant Garrett was Acting Company Sergeant Major. In this capacity his untiring energy, initiative and coolness were displayed in a most marked way. On the 3rd December, under heavy fire, he made personal reconnaissances on the utmost value, and by his bravery and cheerfulness, made the consolidation of the line 60 yards in front of Polderhoek Chateau the success it was. To his quality of inspiring others, the success of the last phase of the operations, in which his Company shared, is largely attributed.'
