'Operations - British front near Bapaume - 24th August 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Private Adams' Section leader became a casualty. Private Adams twice rallied his men and led them to high ground north of Avesnes where he established a post. Although isolated, he still continued to hold the post, despite the fact that the enemy was encircling his position. Throughout he exhibited skill and leadership, setting a fine example to all.'
