Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at Briastre on 12th October, 1918. This soldier was through the difficult fighting before Belle Vue. Throughout he set a splendid example of coolness and daring. During a critical period of the attack his
spirit of cheerfulness and contempt of danger imbued with fresh courage the men of his section whom the trying conditions were commencing to affect, and he was of immense assistance to his platoon Commander in rallying and holding his section together.'
