'For great gallantry and fine leadership. Near Gravenstafel on 4th Oct., after his Officer had been wounded he led his platoon with great gallantry, and assisted in the capture of an enemy position which was holding the advance of the right flank of the Battalion. His platoon captured two machine guns and killed the crews. He showed the greatest bravery and initiative throughout the attack.'
