'Operations: West of Bapaume - 25th August 1918. for gallant conduct and devotion to duty. This soldier was a Company stretcher bearer. He worked continuously for over 12 hours tending wounded under heavy M.G. and Artillery fire. During the day two of his mates became casualties but Private Foley carried on. He did his work cheerfully and well and with great gallantry in the face of enemy fire.'
