Military Medal 'Operations opposite Beclaeare. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 24th December 1917, Pivate Foley, a Battalion Runner, displayed conspicuous gallantry during an intense bombardment by the enemy in the Reutel Sector. All telephonic communication having been destroyed by the bombardment, this runner volunteered to convey an important despatch back to Battalion Headquarters. He made several gallant attempts to get through the barrage, and succeeded in doing so after the third attempt. This courageous act was of the greatest service to his battalion, and is worthy of the highst praise. On several previous occasions he has shown the same courageous character and devotion to duty.'
