Military Medal 'For gallantry in action at Flers on 15th September 1916. During the advance of the 3rd Battalion, 3rd New Zealand (Rifle) Brigade the left flank came under direct fire from an enemy machine gun posted in Flers Trench. Lance-Corporal Fletcher organised a small bombing party from the 1st and 2nd Battalions, New Zealand (Rifle) Brigade, worked around the flanks in advance of our first line, and, though exposed to severe fire, succeeded in killing the crew and placing the gun out of action, thus enabling the advance to proceed. His gallantry undoubtedly saved many casualties.'
