Military Medal 'For good work and devotion to duty during the period August 28/2nd October 1916. Throughout the whole of the above period this NCO was conspicuous for the
example he set and the careful handling of his men when working under fire. On Sept 29th when his platoon came under heavy shrapnel and high explosive fire his personal bravery and example were responsible for getting his platoon out of a very bad place at the expense of very few casualties.'
