Embarked Wellington, 12 February 1917; disembarked Plymouth, England, 2 May 1917, and marched in to 5th Reserve Bn, Sling Camp.

Proceeded overseas to France, 6 June 1917; joined 3rd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 26 June 1917, and posted to D Company.

Wounded in action, 27 June 1917 (gun shot wound, right hand); admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 28 June 1917; transferred same day to No 2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to No 14 General Hospital, Wimereux, 29 June 1917; discharged to Base Depot, Etaples, 25 July 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 25 August 1917.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 12 October 1917 (gun shot wound, right knee/thigh); admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 13 October 1917; transferred same day to No 44 Casualty Clearing Station; to No 3 Canadian General Hospital, Boulogne, 14 October 1917; to England, 17 October 1917, and admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames; transferred to Manor War Hospital, Epsom, 27 October 1917; to NZ Convalescent Depot, Codford, 22 December 1917.

Died suddenly, 21 April 1918.

Result of inquest found death through misadventure: accidentally suffocated whilst intoxicated through lying face down in a hut at Brocton Camp.
