Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field near Briastre on 11th October 1918. This soldier is a platoon runner, and carried messages from his platoon to Company H.Q. through heavy machine gun fire at close range. He displayed initiative as well as cool courage, and by his successful running, managed to save his platoon from having many casualties.'
