Croix de Guerre (Belgium) 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At Loupart Wood on the 24th August 1918 the enemy occupied a strong point on our flank which held up our infantry temporarily. This soldier reconnoitred the position under machine gun and snipers' fire and with grenades and rifle fire drove the enemy out and gave the machine gun of his section the chance of clearing this point of resistance which
enfiladed our advance. By his courage and clever scouting he was instrumental towards the success of the day.'
