Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack on Le Quesnoy on 4th November 1918 when his section was advancing against an enemy
machine-gun in action Finlay showed great bravery and initiative in leading his men and working round the gun eventually capturing it. Later, he took charge of a patrol which got forward to the inner ramparts of the town, and, though under continuous fire, he placed his section in good commanding positions and sent back very useful information.'
