Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and skilful handling of his Lewis gun throughout the recent operations in the Puisieux/Bapaume area from 14th August to 7th September 1918. In the vicinity of Bapaume Private (now Lance Corporal) Findlay displayed marked courage and initiative in working his gun against the numerous enemy machine guns in the sector. During the advance on Havrincourt Wood on 5th
September, when heavy machine gun fire was delaying the advance, he successfully dealt with several of these guns by fearlessly moving to suitable places from which fire could be brought to bear. After the objective was attained he took his gun forward on patrol, located a local hostile counter attack approaching, and considerably assisted in dispersing this enemy force which was aiming at our flank.'
