Proceeded overseas to France, 1 February 1917; joined 1st Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, in the field, 2 March 1917. Attached to Australian Tunnellers, 19 December 1917; rejoined 1st Bn, 10 January 1918. On leave to United Kingdom, 10 January 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, from leave, 29 January 1918. Appointed Lance Corporal, 20 April 1918. Detached to 3rd Army Rest House, 11 May 1918; rejoined Bn, 27 May 1918. Admitted to 3/2 West Lancashire Field Ambulance, 2 July 1918; discharged to unit, 8 July 1918. Admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 24 July 1918, and transferred to 45th Casualty Clearing Station (complaining of shakiness and fatigue); discharged to duty, 8 August 1918.
