Marched in to Sling Camp, Wiltshire, and taken on strength Auckland Company, 1st Brigade Training Bn, 23 August 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 26 September 1916; disembarked Etaples and marched in to New Zealand Infantry and General Base Depot, 27 September 1916. Joined 1st Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, in the field, 1 November 1916. Wounded in action, 12 February 1917; admitted to No 1 New Zealand Field Ambulance and transferred to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 13 February 1916 (bomb wounds, legs).
