War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked Alexandria with unit to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (Gallipoli Campign), 12 April 1915. Admitted to hospital, 16 July 1915 (appendicitis); transferred to Hospital Ship, date not stated; to Valetta Hospital, Malta, 28 July 1915; to HS 'Galeta' 25 August 1915; to No.4 London General Hospital, 3 September 1915; marched into NZ Base Depot, Grey Towers, 7 February 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 3 July 1916; rejoined 1st Bn, Wellington Regiment, in the field, 29 July 1916.
