Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At Crevecoeur on the 1st October 1918 he collected bridging material from a small dump in territory occupied by the enemy. Though under heavy machine gun fire he returned over and over again until he had succeeded in collecting sufficient material. On the 2nd October at the same place his bravery and energy were most marked while assisting in bridging under shell and machine gun fire.'
