Military Medal 'Action in front of Belle Vue Spur, West of Passchendaele, 12th October 1917 and following days. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This man performed particularly fine work throughout the above operations. On the morning of 12th October, despite heavy fire from hostile machine guns and snipers and heavy casualties in his section he reorganised his section and brought his gun
into action with marked effect. Throughout the whole operation by his cheerfulness and devotion to duty he inspired a good spirit into all with whom he
came in contact.'
