War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 15 November 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 29 January 1917, and marched into Sling Camp, and reverted to the ranks. Proceeded overseas to France, 1 March 1917; joined 1st Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 21 May 1917, and posted to 10th Company. Detached to No 2 NZ Machine Gun Company (date not recorded); rejoined Bn from detachment, 19 June 1917. Wounded in action, 27 July 1917 (gassed), and admitted to 3rd NZ Field Ambulance; rejoined Bn, 1 August 1917. Reported missing, 12 October 1917. Court of Enquiry, 17 November 1917, concluded: 'Reasonable to suppose "Killed in action, 12 October 1917".' Burial in Bellevue Spur reported by Rev. G. PRINGLE, attached to 43rd Canadian Bn, 21 November 1917; grave subsequently lost. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal |
