Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the operations near Grevillers and Bancourt on 24th August and 1st September 1918 he was a Company runner. He was carrying messages under heavy fire especially on 30th and 31st August from his Company to Battalion Headquarters. He showed great courage and endurance and his hos work was of the greatest value.'
