Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Whilst under exceptionally heavy shell fire with his company, he noticed that three men of an adjacent company had been buried by a salvo. He at once rushed to the place amidst thickly falling shells and personally extricated the three men, showing complete disregard of his personal safety under the most trying circumstances.'
