Military Medal 'Action in front of Belle Vue Spur, West of Passchendaele, 12th October 1917 and following days. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He took command of the left half of his Company when the other officers and NCOs were casualties. He led his men forward with great coolness determination and ability under heavy enemy machine gun fire. When held up by wire he showed the greatest contempt for danger in reconnoitring the position.'
