Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During an enemy counter attack he rushed forward with his machine gun, though wounded, and took up a position from which he was able to inflict severe losses on the enemy. He was again wounded, and his gun was put out of action, but he repaired it and continued to fire until he was wounded a third time. He set a magnificent example of courage and initiative.'
