Embarked Wellington, 11 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 29 December 1916, and marched into Sling Camp.

Proceeded overseas to France, 1 February 1917; joined 2nd Bn, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, in the field, 3 March 1917.

Admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 18 August 1917 (sprained right ankle; accidental injury, soldier not to blame), and transferred to No 2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to No 8 Red Cross Hospital, Le Touquet, 19 August 1917; to No 6 Convalescent Depot, Etaples, 22 August 1917; to No 5 Convalescent Depot, Cayeux, 23 August 1917; to Base Depot, Etaples, 20 September 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 8 October 1917.

Reported missing, 12 October 1917.
